Obituary of Barbara M. Reinsch
Barbara (Mislick) Reinsch, of Old Saybrook, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2018. She was born to Edward W. and Frances “Emma” (Kolakowski) Mislick on July 18, 1928 in her maternal grandparents’ home on Warsaw Street in Deep River. Barbara was proud of the Polish heritage she received from her immigrant grandparents, Bronislaw and Lucia Kolakowski of Deep River and William and Bertha Mislick of Chester and her parents. She was predeceased by her sister Natalie Ziegra and brother-in-law Albert of Simsbury. She is survived by her son Timothy Reinsch (Jane) of Windsor, daughter Louisa Ketron (Jerry) of Ivoryton, and grandchildren Joseph Reinsch, Alison Mingle, Nora and Jacob Ketron; twin brothers James Mislick (Theresa) of Belmont, MA and Richard Mislick (Cornelia) of St. Helena Island, SC; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Barbara grew up in the town of her birth, and graduated from Deep River High School in 1946, receiving the D.A.R. award. She then attended the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Providence, RI, graduating third in her class in 1947. Her first secretarial job was in an office on Fifth Avenue in New York City. She returned to Deep River, was married in 1949 and raised her two children. At age 37 she decided to become a business education teacher, and graduated from Central Connecticut State College with her BS degree in 1971. She received her MS degree from Central in 1974, and her 6thYear Certificate in Higher Education from the University of Connecticut in 1977. She was employed at the Morgan School in Clinton for ten years, and chaired the Vocational Education Department at Valley Regional High School in Deep River for ten years. Barbara was also a REALTOR and held a CTRE broker license for twenty years. She developed a real estate licensing course for high school students which she was able to teach at Valley Regional. Her professional memberships included the National Education Association, the Alpha Delta Kappa international honorary organization of women educators, the International Society of Business Education, the last of which took her to European conventions in Aachen, Barcelona and Salzburg. She also traveled throughout Europe for pleasure, and cherished a trip to Egypt and the Nile that she made with her daughter. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, Centerbrook on Friday, August 24th from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday August 25th at 10:30AM at Saint Joseph’s Church, 48 Middlesex Avenue in Chester. Interment will follow in the Fountain Hill Cemetery, 57 High Street in Deep River. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to Saint Joseph’s Church, 48 Middlesex Avenue, Chester, CT 06412, where Barbara was a lifelong communicant; or the Deep River Historical Society, P.O.
