Obituary of Carl Harrison Zinn, Jr.
Carl Harrison Zinn, Jr. a 45 year resident of Ivoryton and Essex died peacefully at his home in Essex on October 8, 2019 with his loved ones by his side. He was 97. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 24, 1922 to the late Carl Harrison and Beatrice (Lovett) Zinn. He spent his young adult life in Brooklyn attending Polly Prep and was a 4 Letterman excelling in football, basketball, baseball and track. Carl enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942 and fought valiantly for our country. After his service he met and married Jean Lloyd Dalzell. They resided in Brooklyn and after the births of their two daughters, Deborah Zinn Prouty and Kathryn Zinn Cerussi, they moved to Old Greenwich where they lived for 25 years. They later divorced and in 1979 he married Shirley Gilmore Carlson and they lived in Ivoryton then for many years in Essex. Shirley predeceased Carl on November 29, 2016. Carl was an avid Brooklyn Dodger’s fan and loved his Lady Huskies (UCONN). He loved the outdoors and enjoyed tennis, kayaking and walks to enjoy the beauty of nature. He also enjoyed watching westerns and war movies. Carl was extremely proud of being a Marine….. Semper Fi. Besides his daughters, Deborah of Riverside, CT, and Kathryn of Old Greenwich, CT he leaves his grandsons, John Ryan Prouty, Jr., Michael A. Cerussi III, and James Redmond Prouty and one great-grandson, Jackson Ryan Prouty. He is also survived by his 3 stepsons, David Allen Carlson, of Cambridge, MA, John Thomas Carlson, of Miami, FL and Douglas Neil Carlson of Old Greenwich, and their families. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 11:00AM in the Riverview Cemetery, North Main Street in Essex with the rendering of Military Honors. A reception will follow for friends and family at Carl’s beloved home, Windswept. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Shoreline Kitchen and Pantries, P.O.
