First of all, my condolences to Mary and Reynolds. Paul was a giant of a man, always sharing and helping out with a love of life, learning, and sailing. I feel so fortunate to come to Pettipaug YC each and every year for two days to train up some new windsurfers, to marvel at Paul's tenacity of sailing purpose, and stay at the Risseeuw home. May Paul rest in peace knowing we appreciated him immensely.

I worked directly for Mr. Risseeuw for many years at Electric Boat and our friendship continued after his retirement. He was a mentor and a dear friend to me and I will surely miss him. RIP Mr. Risseeuw.

Paul was always among the first at any US Sailing or US Powerboat event to offer a warm smile and to express genuine interest in the other person's work and activities. Our Edison Sailing Center Family extends its heartfelt sympathy to his family - both his "kin" and his "water" families. We are all better because we knew Paul!

Paul loved junior sailing - he even referred to the ECSA juniors as "my kids." Through various organizations, I was able to get to know Paul and admired his kindness, wit and enthusiasm! Thank you Paul - we'll try to keep up what you built. We know you'll be watching.

I was always picky about who I left our two children with and I eyeballed the PYC program before I enrolled them into the Optis at age 8. They were in great hands with Paul and his crew. Our son would go on to participate in 420 Racing Clinics. He had a great time. Our daughter got her CT Boaters License when the river was raging at 5 knots. Paul convinced me that they still would go out and she would be able to handle a boat in reverse despite it all. He also insisted that I quickly leave as PYC was becoming an island with flooding high tide. I would run into Paul in Newport doing the "12 Meter Challenge" with PYC, HCYC, ECYC, NCYC and my Baldwin Yacht Club. And of course he was a great coach to the Daniel Hand High School sailing team in Madison, CT. Paul was especially generous to us one night. I was involved in an auto accident on Rt 153. A telephone pole broke and the road was closed and there was no way to get to our son who was on the river getting his boaters certificate. Paul said "not to worry" and for an extra 2 hours he had our son driving a boat up and down the CT River. Quite the guy. He made a big difference in the lives of both our children. He needs a tender named after him! Or a JY at Mystic! Fair winds my friend, and following seas. Follow the gleam.

Such a sad day! I remember meeting Paul at my first NSPS in Mystic, Oct 1994. He has been a formidable mentor and connector of water-loving people for so many years. What a tremendous loss to ECSA, Pettipaug, and all of Sail Training. I can remember sitting in on his workshops at NSPS for the past 20+ years.

I am so sorry to hear this news about Paul's passing. My favorite memory of him comes from 1983 when I was driving to his house for an interview for sailing instructor at Pettipaug YC and on my way to the interview my muffler partially fell off on my 1975 Ford Granada. Of course he heard me pull up and we conducted the interview and then he helped me take my muffler off so I could drive home. He also gave me the job. I have great memories of working at Pettipaug and of course working for Paul. My thoughts are with his family.

My condolences to the Risseeuw family. I worked for many years with Paul at Electric Boat and he was a pleasure to work with. After his retirement he came back to EB and taught classes for the Design Apprentice Program. His knowledge and professionalism was an inspiration to these young Designers just starting their careers. He will be remembered by the Apprentice School Staff and Apprentices.

Paul's unwavering commitment to youth sailing through all his ECSA work will be a standard that will be hard to match. His enthusiasm, knowledge, and administrative capability always showed through. This is a real loss to future young sailors. My sympathies to Mary and Reynolds.
