Obituary of Harriet Elizabeth Wind

Harriet Elizabeth "Betty" (Wood) Wind, age 96, of Old Saybrook and formerly of Essex passed away on Friday, afternoon, August 26, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Betty was predeceased by her first husband of twenty-seven years, Benjamin S. Curry and her second husband of twenty-five years, Thomas E. Wind. She was born in Brookfield on October 22, 1919 the daughter of William Frederick and Ina Harris (Morehouse) Wood. Betty was a longtime member of Saint John's Episcopal Church in Essex where she served as parish secretary, she also was employed by Turbo Products in Ivoryton. After her retirement she volunteered for twenty-five years at the Acton Public Library in Old Saybrook. After an extended honeymoon sailing to the Chesapeake Bay in 1939 she continued her love of boating, passing it on to her daughters and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara C. Michael and her husband Curtis, of East Haddam, and Janet C. Fiorelli of Old Saybrook, her step-children, Kay (Wind) O'Brien and her husband Paul of Plantation, Florida, and Thomas E. Wind, III and his wife Lynda Jean of Westminster, California. Betty also leaves her five grandchildren from her first marriage, Gregory and Michael Fiorelli, Christopher Michael, Heather Ross, and Jennifer Chicoine, and eight great-grandchildren. From her second marriage she leaves her four grand-children, Thomas Wind, IV, Andrew Wind, Melissa Overton and Timothy Wind and 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 1st at 11:00AM at Saint John's Episcopal Church, corner of Main and Cross Streets in Essex. Burial will be privately held by her family in the Riverview Cemetery in Essex. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to Saint John's Episcopal Church, P.O.
