Obituary of Anne Addis

Anne Townsend Addis, of Deep River and formerly of Old Saybrook passed away at her home on Monday morning, January 17, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of L. Nickerson Addis who predeceased her on April 23, 2010. Anne was born in New York, NY on January 10, 1923 the daughter of Landon and Anna (Blanton) Townsend. Anne was a 1944 graduate of Wellesley College. She married Nick in Montclair, New Jersey on October 7th of that year. They resided in Old Saybrook from 1965 until moving to Deep River in 2002. Anne was employed by the Town of Old Saybrook for twenty years, first as the Assistant Tax Assessor and later as Tax Assessor. She is survived by her sons, John S. Addis III and his wife Nicole of Helena, Montana, James D. Addis, and his wife Nancy of Glen Ridge, New Jersey, her daughters, Mary Addis McDuffie, and her husband John of Bethesda, Maryland and Hilary Addis Clark and her husband Kevin of Deep River. She also leaves her seven beloved grandchildren: Jennifer, Elizabeth, Anne, Emily, Ian, Benjamin and Ethan and great-grandson, Finnegan. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 21st at 11:00am at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, Main Street in Essex. Private interment will be in the Center Cemetery in New Milford.
