Obituary of Richard Huston

Richard Huston, age 64, of Deep River, passed away at home on October 30th after an honorable fight with cancer. He was the loving husband of Joan (Zahorchak) Huston for 37 years. Richard was born in New York City on February 24, 1950, the son of Andrew and Catherine (Donnelly) Huston. The family moved to New Jersey in 1953 and Richard graduated from South River High School in 1969. He volunteered to serve in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War conflict and spent his time stationed on an air-base in Vietnam, later serving additional time in Japan. Richard returned home to NJ, married and raised a family. He was employed by Twin County Grocers for over 20 years and was an active member of Evangel Church, in Scotch Plains, NJ. He went on to work at Evangel in 1999, in charge of maintenance and repairs. Richard moved his family to Deep River, CT in 2000 and spent 13 years at Tilcon Connecticut, Inc. He retired in late 2013. In his personal life, he most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially on vacations. He loved the outdoors and many weekends were spent with his sons going camping, fishing, and on canoe trips. Recently, Richard trained his dog, Regan, as a therapy dog, and liked taking walks in town with his wife. He is survived by his wife Joan, his daughter Catherine Palazola and her husband Matthew Palazola of Darien, CT, his sons Daniel and Andrew of Deep River, CT, and his son John of New Haven, CT. He leaves behind his two granddaughters, Emma and Sadie Palazola. Richard is also survived by his father Andrew and stepmother Jane Huston of Ocean Pines, MD, his brother Thomas and sister-in-law Carole of East Windsor, NJ, his sister Suzanne and brother-in-law Thomas Gregory of Spotswood, NJ, and many loved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Catherine Huston, and his sister, Maureen Gostowski. Richard Huston will be remembered by his family and friends as a kind, sweet and loving man. A private graveside service will be held by the family. A memorial service will be held at Christ Chapel, 1185 Durham Road in Madison on Friday November 7 at 3 PM.
