Obituary of Robert Boyd Dixon

Robert Boyd Dixon of Essex passed away on June 3, 2018. He was born on January 26, 1937 in Jamestown, New York the middle child of the late Janet (Boyd) Dixon and Walter Raymond Dixon. Bob was raised in the Northeast and the Carolinas. He served his country in the United States Air Force and the National Security Agency working in intelligence both in the United States and Germany during the height of the Cold War and went on to earn his degree in Russian at Syracuse University. Upon graduation Bob joined Irving Trust Bank in NYC while continuing his graduate studies at the New York University School of Business. He subsequently joined Ford Motor Company establishing financial subsidiaries in Africa, Europe and South America. It was as Assistant Controller of Gillette in Boston that he met and married his beloved wife Ann. They moved to Larchmont, New York when he was made Controller of Hertz Corporation. Bob joined Citibank and then later spent time in Brazil as Senior Credit Officer for Latin America.  Bob and Ann moved to Essex in 1994 when he became Executive Vice-President of The Connecticut Development Authority. Afterwards he held positions as CFO of several finance companies and completed a public IPO.  Bob served as Treasurer of the Town of Essex and was the Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of the Heritage Cove Condominium Association. He also served as Treasurer and was a member of the Vestry at Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Essex. Bob was an active member of Larchmont and Essex Yacht Clubs, sailing the New England coast for many years with his wife and family, his most treasured crew. Bob is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ann (Staples) Dixon, his son, Alexander, and his wife Kati of Riverside, Connecticut, his daughter, Kathryn and her husband Anek Ahuja of Chennai, India, and his three adored grandchildren, Sophie and Charlie Dixon and Ray Ahuja. He also leaves his sister, Ruth and her husband James McColl of Greenwood, SC, sister-in-law, Marsha Dixon of Raleigh, NC, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother James Dixon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10:30AM at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, corner of Main and Cross Streets in Essex. Burial will follow with the Rendering of Full Military Honors in the Riverview Cemetery, North Main Street in Essex.
