Living on the west coast for the last 57 years I did not know Bub passed away and I am very sorry to hear that. Bub and I graduated from VRHS Bub in 1953 and me in 1954. Zanni's service station was a gathering place for us guys when we were young and Zilvio the father owned the station, then Bub took over. I would stop at the service station when I visited Deep River and Bub would fill me in on the news around town and always a funny story. I will remember him as a happy person and with a smile most of the time.
Best wishes to his family. RIP Bub, you will be missed.

I never got to meet Bub., but I have seen his name and the rest of the Zanni family on my family tree for ages. I wanted so badly to come to CT and meet him, introduce myself and sit a while to learn more about the family and stories to pass along. I never got to know my Zanni nor Barolo side of the family, I am the great granddaughter of Esther Zanni (Barolo). I wish a peaceful journey to Bub. May the family find strength in each other and continue to carry his stories and memories for future generations to treasure.
Thank you for love that I felt reading your obit and the other stories people are sharing.

I wish to send my deepest condolences to Sandy, the lovely classy lady who endeared me to the Zanni family and my sister-in-law, Bub's daughter, Carolyn. Bub was a fixture in the community for quite some time and I am sure his presence will be missed by all that knew him. For Sandy, his wife and Carolyn, his only child, along with her husband Keith and their children, Michael and Chelsae, I hope that as each day passes, you see less of a shadow and more of the sun. Hold dear to your heart all that "Bub" taught you all, because that is the beauty he has blessed you with.

Bub was a Deep River fixture. He used to come in and check on me when I worked nights at Cumbies because "a pretty little girl should not be working nights alone." Every morning I would watch him and the guys sit outside his gas station drinking coffee and shooting the breeze. Sorry to say I hadn't seen him in years, but he will be truly missed.

I am so sorry to hear about Bub. Back in the 1970s he saved my skin; I was a very young driver headed south on Rte. 9 in a car with a broken gas gauge, and I ran out of gas just before Exit 5. I pulled over to the right and started walking to Deep River center. A friend's mom saw me and picked me up. She offered to take me to Bub's gas station. I thought I would have to call home for help as I had no money, but Bub just filled up a can and waved me off. We drove back to the car and were able to put the gas in and get me moving. I drove back to Bub's to return the can. He never asked me for money. I learned two things that day: get familiar with anything that's broken on your car, and how kind both my friend's mom and Bub were. I hope I have paid it forward. He was one of a kind. My condolences to his family...a major loss to the tri-town folks.

Sandi and family,
Eric and I have such great memories of Bub.He always made us laugh and was a great grandfather role model. I loved when he would come to my workbench and visit and make all of us chuckle along with him. There was never any whispering and wondering what was on his mind.Once in awhile I would give him a big hug and kiss and make him blush. The day he brought me to outpatient surgery in Middletown and then came to pick me up and told the nurses he wasn't going to take care of me and they all just looked at me in horror and when I started laughing they knew he was ok.He pulled up to Bridge Street at the curb let me out and went up the road.Never looked to make sure I got in.Bub was a great guy and I'm so glad Eric and I got to see him not long ago in the fall.Great man with a big heart. We will always remember the great times with him.Our deepest sympathies Sandi.Take care of yourself a nd those beautiful pets who will miss Bub too.
