Obituary of Ruth Ann Carlson
Ruth Ann Carlson, 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Westbrook on April 23, 2018 surrounded by her children, daughter in-law and grandson. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 6, 1925 to Mae and Edward Buntrock. She grew up in Milwaukee and Villa Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago and attended Augustana Nursing School and became a Registered Nurse. She worked as Visiting Nurse on the Southside of Chicago during the 1940s & 50s. She left visiting nursing in the mid-1950s to take a job as a corporate nurse at RR Donnelly’s Lakeside Printing in Chicago where she met her husband Raymond Carlson. They were married on April 13, 1957 in Chicago and moved to the Old Saybrook/Westbrook area in 1960 when Donnelly opened their Old Saybrook facility. Together they raised three children, Constance Carlson, Stephen and Philip Carlson. Her husband passed away in 2005 and she is survived by her three children, daughter in-law, Lisa Carlson and her grandson Shane Carlson. Additionally, she is survived by her step-brothers, John and Emil Novak. A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, June 30th at her home in Westbrook followed by a reception.
