Obituary of Bertha (King) Deming
Bertha (King) Deming, 86, a longtime resident of Old Saybrook passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on October 3, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Harold C. Deming Sr. who died in 2007. Bertha was born in Martha’s Vineyard, MA, daughter of the late Henry & Bertha (Ray) King, she moved to Old Saybrook in 1935, was educated in the Old Saybrook schools, she was a member of the Essex Baptist Church for many years belonging to their Missionary Society and Booster Club. Bertha owned and operated Deming Gardens since 1957. She is survived by her children; Harold C. (Butch) Deming Jr. of Old Saybrook, Les Deming of Deep River, Charles Deming of N.C. and Judy Walsh of Assonet, MA, her sisters Persis Fraser of NH and Jane Yuell of MA, as well as 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Visitation for Bertha will be held on Monday, Oct. 8th from 5-7pm at the First Baptist Church, 10 Prospect St. Essex. Her service will follow on Tuesday, Oct.9th at 11am at the church. Interment will follow Riverside Cemetery, Old Saybrook. Donations in Bertha’s name may be made to the First Baptist Church, 10 Prospect St. Essex, CT 06426.
