Obituary of Evelyn "June" Becker
JESUS ushered our mom, Evelyn *JUNE* Becker, into Eternal Joy on October 25, 2018 at the age of 87. She died peacefully in her Winthrop home where she resided with her faithful husband for their 67 years of marriage. She was born in Guilford, CT to George Elsworth Norton and Evelyn Warner Norton on June 12, 1931 and spent most of her childhood years in Westbrook.
Upon returning from the war, Conrad claimed his bride, June; and they were married on March 31st, 1951, purchased their land on Westbrook Road for $500 and built their home together over many years using a book for guidance! During that time, June excelled in being a devoted wife and mother as they raised their three children, Dan, Paul and Joanne. Conrad’s endearing Love for June was always apparent as he called her “Cookie” or “The Mother Bird”. Their home was constantly filled with family gatherings, laughter and delicious food lovingly prepared by June with many hands joining in for the holiday meals in the kitchen.
Con and June Loved to go Camping together every summer with their family, exploring all the sights throughout New England and beyond. Spring and Fall would send them to the Cape where they enjoyed walking the beach, swimming in the pool, exploring gift shops and eating fried seafood. Arthur and Betty joined them on many of their travels, too, giving them a special bond throughout the years.
June had a natural talent for making anyone and everyone feel welcome and loved in her home, always quick to stop what she was doing and serve others and spend time visiting with them. The coffee clutches at the kitchen table were practically a daily occurrence. But you could also find her digging in the garden, at her sewing machine or decorating a cake for someone’s upcoming wedding. She spent many a Wednesday night with her girlfriends quilting, sewing and making amazing gifts for her friends and family. Her creativity with arts and crafts was generously shared and taught to her children and grandchildren.
June leaves behind her loving husband, Conrad Frederick Becker, her son, Daniel Wayne Becker and her daughter, Joanne Lynn Klock. She was predeceased by her son, Paul Brian Becker whom she has now joined in Heaven.
She also leaves two sisters, Priscilla Douglass and Patricia Norton, one brother, David Norton and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Anne Burgeon and her brother, George “Dody” Norton. June’s departure also leaves behind Conrad’s wonderful family whom she enjoyed so many picnics, holidays and birthday parties with throughout their married life.
June loved spending quality time with her five Grandchildren – Jamie Lyn Becker, Alicia Renee Becker, Nicholas Ryan Klock, Andrew Neil Becker and Abby Rae Klock Marston always going above and beyond to make their time FUN and memorable! Three Precious Great Granddaughters have now joined the list: Calista Zeh Marston, Blakely May Marston and Harper Jade Becker.
In her last few years, June was incredibly Blessed with the most Amazing Team of Caregivers who showered her with Love, made her Smile and Laugh every day and Cared for her until JESUS called her Home. In addition to family, we give Special Thanks to Terry Gilbert, Sharon Gilbert, The Middlesex Hospital Hospice Home Care Team and most of all to our wonderful and entertaining Debbie Hagen who will always fondly remember our MOM as her JUNE BUG!
“Love the Lord your God with All your Heart, Soul, Mind and Strength and Love your Neighbor as Yourself.” Mark 12:30&31 June best demonstrated her FAITH in Jesus by her LOVE for Others. The Contribution we would like to ask you for is to Recognize and Thank a Caregiver whenever you see one and do something special to encourage them whenever you can! Visitation for June will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook followed by her funeral service in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in the Fountain Hill Cemetery in Deep River.
