Obituary of Alexandra Marie Dilger

Alexandra Marie Dilger, 21, of Deep River, beloved daughter of Gale and Patrick Dilger and sister to Jonathan, 25 and Michael, 17, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 7.

A student at Landmark College in Putney, Vermont, Alexandra was stricken in her residence hall room while in the midst of a long, happy phone call with her elder brother. Despite her struggles with anxiety and depression throughout her teenage years and into her early 20s, Alexandra was moving ahead, picking the next set of classes toward her degree, planning a summer study abroad program in Botswana and looking forward to seeing family and friends at Thanksgiving. Although her passing was tragically premature, she lived a rich and full life. She loved to travel: hiking glaciers in New Zealand; zip-lining through the Costa Rican rainforest; swimming with tropical fish in the reefs of the Cook Islands; boating through iceberg crusted fjords in Iceland; strolling the James Joyce Literary Walk in Dublin. Her interests were both eclectic and edgy. She loved classic literature, science fiction, theatre, live music, art and independent films. A vegetarian, she had a deep affection for all creatures great and small, in particular her beloved cat Happy, who predeceased her by only a few months at the age of 19. Born in New Haven on April 29, 1997, Alexandra had a beautiful mind and a tender heart. She is deeply loved by many, and will be sorely missed. Aside from her immediate family, she is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Jennie Everson of New Britain, and her paternal grandfather, John Dilger of Deep River, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to join her family for a visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 16 at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, Centerbrook. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 17 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 48 Middlesex Avenue, Chester. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: A Little Compassion Inc./The Nest Coffee House, a Deep River-based non-profit creating social and employment opportunities for young adults with disabilities at: www.alittlecompassion.org OR Landmark College scholarship support/ student life: www.landmark.edu/giving.
