My name is Peter Sanford Kahrmann. I am now 66 years old. Dr. J. Kenneth Taylor saved my life. I was held-up and shot in the head in 1984. The bullet entered the frontal lobe of my brain. Dr. Taylor headed the three-surgeon team that operated on me. He spent a moment with me right before bringing me into the operating room. I said, "Listen, no Marcus Welby sh*t, what are my chances of living through this?" - referring to the surgery. He said, "Okay. No Marcus Welby sh*t, about 60 percent." It was as if we entered into a pact, an understanding. His calm, his serenity in the moment, and, he was telling me the truth. Dr. Taylor was not hurting for humor either. When he came to see me after brain surgery, he quipped, "Well, we opened up your head and found nothing there." My eyes are filled with tears right now. If there is a heaven, that is where this truly good and decent man is.
