Obituary of Douglas Ryan
Douglas Ryan of Old Saybrook and Essex quietly passed away at Apple Rehab in Old Saybrook on Friday, January 11th. He was a graduate of the Coast Guard Academy, and after his service he worked for Cramer Controls in Centerbrook for many years. He then worked independently, building a forge and creating fine wrought iron lighting fixtures. A lifelong member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Essex, he crafted the cross in the memorial garden and designed and made the mold for casting the celtic cross above the church office. He is predeceased by his wife, Deborah and is survived by his daughters Tracy of Honolulu, Hawaii and Derry of Cape Coral, Florida and their families. A sister, Sue Robertson, lives in Kempton, Pennsylvania and his brother, Richard, recently passed away. A memorial service will be held at Saint John's Church, corner of Main and Cross Streets in Essex on Saturday, May 18th at 10:30 A.M.
