Obituary of Virginia C. O'Shaughnessy

Virginia C. (Campbell) O’Shaughnessy, 86, of Ivoryton Connecticut (formerly of Simsbury and East Granby) passed away on January 17, 2019 at The Connecticut Hospice. Ginny was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Ken O’Shaughnessy and her son K.C. O’Shaughnessy.  She is survived by her children, Jane O’Shaughnessy of Cromwell, CT, Julie O’Shaughnessy and husband Jeff Woods of Essex, CT, Eileen O’Shaughnessy of Warwick, RI and Bill O’Shaughnessy and wife Jacqui O’Shaughnessy of Cream Ridge, NJ .She also leaves her daughter in law Beth O’Shaughnessy of Ada MI and her sister Elinor C. Feihel of Columbus, OH. She was the loving grandmother of Emma (Woods) Martin and husband Joey Martin of Bristol, CT, Brendan Woods of New York, NY, Dylan Woods of Cambridge, MA , Tom O’Shaughnessy of Cream Ridge, NJ, Melaina Langer and Max Langer also of NJ. She also leaves behind two brothers-in-law and their wives, Dick and Winnie O’Shaughnessy of Wolfeboro, NH and Ray and Carole O’Shaughnessy of Westhampton, NY as well as a sister-in-law Pressy O’Shaughnessy and cherished nieces and nephews. Ginny was born in Island Park, Long Island, NY in 1932 to Jane (Connolly) Campbell and J. Walter Campbell. She attended Island Park High School and the State University of New York at New Paltz and earned her Masters Degree from Central Connecticut State University. Ginny taught and inspired many generations of students in her years as an Elementary School teacher for the Town of Simsbury. She was an amazing mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend and mentor to so many people. Ginny had a wonderful sense of humor and a sweet, nurturing way about her that drew so many people to her. She was thoughtful and compassionate beyond measure. She never forgot a birthday or missed sending cards for anniversaries, christenings, graduations or other important life events of those she loved. She had a sharp intellect. The family would like to thank the incredible staff of Smilow’s 7th floor, the compassionate care she received from CT Hospice and Maureen Murray and the Attrinity Team. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to The K. C. O’Shaughnessy Entrepreneurship Endowment, WMU Foundation, 1903 W Michigan Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49008, or Smilow Cancer Center 7th Floor, Office of Development, PO Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 11:00AM at Saint Mark the Evangelist Church, 222 McVeagh Road in Westbrook.
