Obituary of Irma L. Nuhn
Irma Lynn Nuhn, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Yale-New Haven Hospital due to heart complications. She was born at home on Dennison Lane in Essex on March 1, 1929, she attended Essex Grammar School from grades 1 to 8 on Prospect Street. She frequented Pop Gunn’s store on the corner of New City and North Main (Ames James Building), where she would buy her favorite penny candy. She loved ice skating at Sunset Pond and would take summertime bike rides to West Beach in Westbrook. She graduated from Pratt High School, class of ’47. She had her 70th year class reunion with her five remaining classmates at the Griswold Inn in 2017. Irma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Essex from 1934 to present. She worked as the Missionary Society Treasurer, Church Financial Secretary, and Sunday school teacher, and co-founded the First Baptist Soup Kitchen with Ruth Adams, Midge Lynn, and Suzy LaPlace with Rev. Wimber. The kitchen expanded to serve many churches and townspeople in the area for many years. She was recognized as a 50th Anniversary Pillars of the Church member. She was introduced by her brother, Walter, to Robert Nuhn, whom she married in 1949 at the family home in Essex. They retired to their home in Chester in 1983. She is survived by her loving husband Robert and their 3 children, Donald Nuhn and his wife Linda, Ellen Ziobron with her husband William, and Timothy Nuhn and his wife Janice. She is also is survived by her grandson, Steven Nuhn with his wife Caitlin and her grandson Caleb Nuhn, along with Timothy’s step-son Jonathan Leonard and his wife Jessie and her nieces and nephews. Irma will be dearly missed by all those who knew her. A memorial service will be held for her on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00AM at the First Baptist Church, 10 Prospect Street in Essex.
