Obituary of Grace Arlene Stalsburg
Grace Arlene Stalsburg (Alexander) passed away peacefully at her home on January 26, 2019. Predeceased by her husband Robert and children, Patricia and Harold (Buzzy), Grace leaves her children Carol Rudewicz (Henry), of Deep River; Robert Stalsburg (Sheri) of Westbrook; and Kitty Stalsburg (Rob Hageman) of Lyme. Grace’s joy in her 5 grandchildren, Damon Rudewicz of Old Lyme; Brittany Stalsburg of East Haven, Kathryn Hageman of London; Eric Stalsburg of Brooklyn; Kelly Stalsburg of New Haven and her great grandchild, Dean Thomas Fitch-Stalsburg of East Haven knew no bounds. She took great pleasure in teaching and sharing with each of them. Family was central to her life and her siblings brought comfort and happiness to her throughout her years. One of seven siblings, she leaves Richard Alexander of Gassetts, VT; Gloria Burdick of Ivoryton, CT., and Roberta Ziobron of Deep River, CT. For more than 50 years, Grace worked alongside her husband, Bob and son Bobby to run the family owned and operated business, Stalsburg Express. A formidable, determined, hard working woman, Grace was active in her community and committed to helping others. A leader in every way she was involved with many organizations throughout her long life. Among them PTA; High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, Inc, Republican Town Committee, Soroptimist International Club, Rotary Club, (Paul Harris Fellow), American Legion Auxiliary, St. Joseph’s Church, Emblem Club, Deep River Historical Society and Camp Hazen. She was a perfectionist who instilled a strong work ethic in her family. She expected others to do their best and strive for success. A creative cook, avid tennis player, and, passionate gardener, she will leave her mark on the community of Deep River which she loved and with her husband, Bob, nurtured for over 60 years. A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chester, CT on Saturday February 9th at 10:30 am.
