Obituary of Thomas A. Merola

Thomas A. Merola passed peacefully in his home in Ivoryton, CT on November 24, 2014. He is survived by his wife Rose, his sister Virginia Carter and husband Ted Carter of Reston, VA, his daughter Lindsay Merola Hale and husband Jason Hale, and their two children Kaylee and Jacob of Essex, CT, his son Matthew Merola and wife Kaitlyn Merola of Boston, MA, and his two step children Gwendolina Rose of Los Angeles, CA and John Mooney of Bristol, CT. Thomas was born in New Rochelle, NY on January 8, 1950. He studied history at Pace University. Thomas was an avid sailor throughout his life and participated in a number of sailing events around the world. He was also an accomplished triathlete ranking in the top of his age group for many years in the state of CT. Thomas was a member of the Valley Shore YMCA for over 30 years and was a coach/mentor to kids in the local community, especially in lacrosse. He shared his passion for an active lifestyle with his grandchildren and have had a profound impact in their lives. Over the recent years he shared his love of travel and the outdoors with his loving wife Rose. Thomas' ashes will be scattered into the CT River on Saturday, November 29 thus honoring his belief of "the journey is the destination."
