Obituary of Ondina Alvarez Gonzalez
Ondina Alvarez Gonzalez, 86, of Old Saybrook, formerly of Centerbrook, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2019 at Gladeview Healthcare surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Juan Alvarez and Dolores Fernandez Alvarez, Ondina was born in Havana, Cuba. Dina, as she was known to her friends and family, immigrated to the United States in 1957 and was proud to call it home. She was a longtime resident of Bridgeport, where she was employed by Dictaphone and Sikorsky Aircraft, from which she retired. A devoted mother and grandmother who cherished time spent with her family, Ondina will be remembered most for her strength and generous spirit. She loved children and all of nature's creatures, but her greatest love and pride were her grandchildren, Christine and Ricky Taylor, the lights of her life. She was their biggest, and most vocal, fan. She is survived and will be missed dearly by her daughter Evelyn and son-in-law Rick Taylor of Clinton; her granddaughter Christine Taylor and her fiancée Matthew West of Philadelphia; her grandson Ricky Taylor and his wife Emily of Boston; and her brother Armando Alvarez of Miami. She was predeceased by her brothers Arturo, Manolo, and Juan Alvarez. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Gladeview for their loving care, endless compassion, and everyday devotion for the past 10 years. May you keep her memory and generous spirit alive through acts of kindness for loved ones and strangers alike.
