Jerry's family. Only saw the obit when my husband was passing in April 2019. Both Jerry and Bill entered the service when they were 17. Bill had to wait several month until he was 18. I met Jerry and the children in 1961 in Christy Hill Estates. We carpooled to kindergarten with Brian as our eldest too was in that grade. Our other sons, Andy and Chris, also tagged along and periodically played together. My husband was on a destroyer and then a diesel sub, Menhaden, before sub school and nuclear power training. We left Christy Hill in 1963 and returned to Gales Ferry to Meadow Drive from 1966 to 1970. Unfortunately paths did not cross then. Having heard about Jerry since before Bill & I married in 1956, I truly wish I could have enabled the cherished friendship to better flourish. Sincerest of best wishes to the family! To Zenona and family and friends of Gerald Levey, LCDR, On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans - USSVI, please accept our sincere condolences at Gerald’s passing. You and your loved ones are in our thoughts and prayers. May you find kindness to warm you, sympathy to comfort you, and cherished memories to bring peace to your heart. We are forever grateful for Gerald's service to our country in the United States Submarine service. CDR Levey served with distinction in the U.S. Navy during the Cold War and was a crewmember on the USS Thornback (SS-418), USS Tusk (SS-426), and CO of the USS Sablefish (SS-303). To our Brother of the Phin we say, “Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch.” “Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way.” 2 Thessalonians 3:16. What I would have said to Jerry if I was in contact with him in recent years: You exude qualities symbolic of what I like to think defines an American man. Soon after I joined A&T a business opportunity was presented. Briefly it was to teach industry and navy civil servant designers and testers of the Trident Submarine Command & Control System how the system is used by operators. Asking around the company I was told to see you. I was intimidated by your presence and clear confidence in yourself. Essentially you said you would help create the course only if (as you were looking into my sole) I was going to do it right. Wow. You conveyed a clear message if I screw this up all respect for me would be lost (a fate much worse than being yelled at). Fortunately we both did our parts and the Trident Submarine is a better-designed ship as a result. Since I passed "your test" I got to see your warm side and considered you a friend. In my career I have met very accomplished individuals. For a time I was on a advisory board of a DC company with prestigious 4-star Admirals Zumwalt and karttera as my peers. Jerry, you are made from the same cloth for sure. When I left A&T in 1992, my most treasured gift was an original painting by you of the Watch Hill Light House, which still hangs on our entry wall. Now, knowing of your passing I will be sure to look at it everyday. Jerry, yes you shared some of your life's rough spots with me. No one escapes these. Non-the-less you are a role model for anyone and one of the top people to inspire me to succeed, no matter the odds. My only regret is that I would have loved to have gotten your opinion of my book, "Working World Mentor" which I believe would have made you smile with approval.
