Obituary of Kenneth Vernon Howley

Kenneth Vernon Howley, 72, formerly of Chester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 2, 2019 with his beloved wife Paula at his side.  Ken was born in Middletown, Connecticut on April 4, 1946, son of the late Thomas and Marjorie (House) Howley. He had an illustrious 37 year career with the New Haven Register, having worked his way from a Journeyman Printer to Assistant Pressroom Manager.  He was a proud member of St. Joseph's in Chester, and was active in the Knights of Columbus Council 3037. Ken loved the outdoors and could often be found camping, shooting, kayaking or hiking in the state forest behind his home or any National Park he could drive his family to. Whether on a family vacation or eating Sunday dinner, he was always happiest surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. His bright smile and engaging sense of humor always left his grandkids laughing and filled with wonder. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Paula (Voghell) Howley and their four children, David Howley, Keith Howley and his wife Kimberly, Amy Hathaway and her husband Jack, and Nathan Howley.  In addition, he leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Ethan Howley, Julia Howley, Nora Howley, Jonathon Howley, Lillian Hathaway and Charles Hathaway and his three brothers, Thomas Howley, Dennis Howley, and Gary Howley and their families. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Sunday, April 7th from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 8th at 11:00AM at Saint Joseph Church, 48 Middlesex Avenue in Chester. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.  The family would like to thank the excellent nursing staff at Aaron Manor and the Vitas Hospice care.  In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Ken’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Connecticut Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
