I am sorry for this delayed condolence. I was not aware of Nell's passing until I tried to call her Galt Ocean Club apartment and found that the phone had been disconnected. I found this site after a short search.
Nell was a long time friend of my mother, Thelma, when they first were neighbours in Santurce, Puerto Rico, and then again living near each other in Florida. She, with my mother, also stayed in my building here in London. On my wall, I still have her two lovely watercolours she created, looking out the window at the Victorian buildings across the street, and the back view of the building and part of the garden. When she travelled in Europe with my mother, I would sometimes fly over and join them for a few days. They were both intrepid travellers. Living in Europe, I would send postcards from my various travels around the world. I had tried to call to tell her I couldn't send a postcard from the Gobi. Too remote.
She lived a life to be envied, living life to the fullest. When she told me she was stopping playing tennis, she was in her 90s. We can all only hope that we are as alert, spry, engaged and effervescent through our lives as she was.
