Obituary of Laura Freiman
Laura Freiman passed away peacefully and gently on July 30, 2019 after a long illness. Born Mary Rose Rice on January 23, 1930, Laura was adopted as an infant by Israel and Gertrude Schwarzbarth and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She married Gerald Freiman, the love of her life, at a young age and they remained deeply devoted until his death in 1997. The two shared interests in travel, literature, art, horseback riding and enjoyed socializing with their many dear friends. They raised their family in Roslyn and then Mill Neck, New York. Laura held a variety of positions in nonprofit organizations, often as President. She was a Girl Scout leader, spearheaded a pioneering art therapy program for mentally ill Vietnam veterans, organized and led a successful local art museum, engaged in civic activities, and pursued her love of knowledge with numerous college courses. She is survived by her daughters, Gwenne Celmer (Ray), Karan Barry, and Abbe Dole (Jody), grandchildren Sara, Chris, Heather, Sam and Brandon, and great-grandchild Cameron, all of whom will miss her dearly.
