Obituary of Claire Elizabeth Burns

Claire Elizabeth Burns passed away on September 13, 2019 from cancer at her home in Chester, Connecticut. She was born on March 9, 1947 in Springfield, MA. to Catherine (Dowd) Burns and Robert Emmett Burns, she was the eldest of four children: William, Maryann, and Teresa. After graduating from Cathedral High School in 1965, she went on to the College of Mount Saint Vincent where she studied English Literature, graduating in 1969. For many years, she was a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) she was also involved with the Voluntary Action Center of Greater Hartford and the American Red Cross. Claire spent over 30 years raising her children in Glastonbury, CT. She was an avid skier, swimmer and world traveler. She leaves behind her children, Maura Allen of Watertown, MA. and Matthew Allen of Huntington Beach, CA. as well as her life partner Ted Hyneck of Chester. She also leaves her siblings William Burns of Wilmington, NC. Maryann Burns (husband Larry Jenkins) of Yarmouth Port, MA. and Teresa Preston of Ludlow, MA.  In addition, she leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2019 from 9:00AM to 11:00AM at the Robinson, Wright and Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook, CT. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 11:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 48 Middlesex Ave. in Chester. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Springfield College or the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
