Obituary of Evelyn Beebe Cone
Evelyn Beebe Cone, age 98, of East Haddam, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. She was born in East Haddam on May 4, 1916, the daughter of Frank S. and Florence (Beebe) Cone and raised on the family farm. Evelyn taught physical education in the Meriden school system from 1938 to 1968. She also taught for a year at a resident school for troubled children in Kansas City. Evelyn was a lifelong member of The First Church of Christ, Congregational in East Haddam and a member of the East Haddam Garden Club. She enjoyed riding horses, always having Ford convertibles including a purple Mustang which she purchased at age 80. Evelyn was proud to still have her first car, a 1931 Ford Roadster. She loved being at the family farm with the animals. She never enjoyed cooking. Evelyn is survived by her nieces and nephews, Nancy M. Lee and her husband Don, of Deep River, Deborah H. Ouellette, and her husband Ken of East Haddam, Robert S. Cone Jr. of East Haddam, Theodore F. Cone and his wife Pam of Lebanon, Dwight L. Cone and his wife Valerie of Tavares, FL, Timothy W. Cone, of East Haddam, and his companion Lenore Consiglio, her twenty-three great nieces and nephews, and her beloved kitty Phoebe Beebe. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, R. Sherwood Cone, her sister Viola C. Moore, and her niece Amelia M. Charest. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from 10:00AM to11:00AM at The First Church of Christ, Congregational, 499 Town Street (Rte. 151) in East Haddam. Evelyn's funeral service will be conducted at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in the Millington Green Cemetery in East Haddam. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Evelyn's name may be made to First Church of Christ, Congregational in East Haddam, P.O.
