Obituary of Lillian Stuart Johnson Mosa
Lillian Stuart Johnson Mosa passed away peacefully on October 29, 2019 at her home in Essex, CT. Lillian was born in Lewiston, ME where she attended Lewiston High School. She received a BA degree in History from the University of Maine. Lillian passionately embraced several careers, including history teacher in Martha's Vineyard, MA and Bristol, CT; owner of Jack & Jill Nursery School in Bristol, CT; vice president of real estate development in Avon, CT; real estate professor in Farmington, CT; antiques show promoter in CT; and author of the critically acclaimed book Fashionable First Ladies. Lillian's competitive spirit shined as she won several first prizes in masters running races in CT and Boston, MA. Her many interests included arts and crafts, gardening, traveling, kayaking, and cooking. She was a long-time member and past moderator of the First Congregational Church in Essex, UCC. She was a member of the Essex Zoning Board, and a Nathan Hale Chapter member of the DAR. Lillian is survived by her husband of 58 years, Anthony Mosa of Essex, CT and children Anthony Mosa of Essex, CT and Mary ann Mosa of Norwalk, CT. Lillian is predeceased by her parents Frank and Norma Johnson of ME and sister Barbara Gillis of ME. Lillian is also survived by siblings Geraldine Triglione of ME, Arlene Alzapiedi of CT, Frank Johnson of ME, Betty Ann Lachance of ME, and William Johnson of ME. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Lillian was a dedicated mother, aunt, and wife–truly family first. She had a generous spirit and appetite for knowledge. Her diverse accomplishments and friendships were enabled by her boundless energy and gregarious personality. She will be missed by all. A celebration of Lillian's life will be held at 12:30pm, November 9th, 2019, at the First Congregational Church in Essex, 6 Methodist Hill, Essex, CT 06426.
