Obituary of Stanley Theodore Ahlers
Stanley Theodore Ahlers, age 89, passed away Thursday morning, December 25, 2014 at the Essex Meadows Health Center. He was the beloved husband of Beverly (Bittiner) Ahlers. Besides his wife, Stan is survived by his sons, Douglas C. Ahlers, of Incline Village, Nevada, Scott B. Ahlers and his wife Patricia, of Middletown, his grandchildren, Katie Ahlers, of Missoula, Montana and Kevin Tomassetti and his wife Jillian of Weston, CT. He was predeceased by his son, James A. Ahlers. Stanley was born July 30, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York to Charles Ahlers and Violet Lillian (Ramos) Ahlers. He grew up in Yonkers, NY, graduating from Charles E. Gorton High School in June of 1942. Stan then went on to attend the University of Michigan, but left school to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. Following a distinguished career in the service, Stan returned to the University of Michigan graduating with a BS in mathematics, specializing in probability and statistics. After graduation, Stan moved back to Yonkers where he started his career in Market Research in NYC. At that time, he met his lovely wife Beverly and shortly thereafter they were married in 1951. After a couple of years in Yonkers, they built a home in Armonk, NY, where they lived for 27 years. It was there that they raised 3 boys. Throughout his life, Stan enjoyed playing in various sports leagues including softball, bowling, badminton and golf to name a few. Regardless of the activity, Stan was a role model. He was admired by his coworkers in the professional community as well. Stan commuted to NYC working for Ted Bates Advertising, C.E. Hooper Company, and then retired from Burke Marketing Research in 1987. At that time, he and Beverly retired to their summer home in Old Lyme Shores, where they spent many wonderful years. In 2009, he and Beverly moved to Essex Meadows and have continued to enjoy their friendships from Old Lyme while making numerous friends there. To honor Stan's life, a memorial service will be held on Saturday January 3rd at 10:30 am in Hamilton Hall, Essex Meadows, 30 Bokum Road, Essex, CT.The Reverend Canon Mark K.J. Robinson, Rector of Saint Ann's Episcopal Church in Old Lyme will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Stan's name may be made to the Essex Meadows Scholarship Foundation, 30 Bokum Road, Essex, CT 06426 or a charity of your choice.
