Obituary of Lynnetta N. Thornwall

Lynnetta N. Thornwall, 80, of Essex, CT passed away peacefully on December 8, 2019 after a lengthy illness. She was born on February 15, 1939, in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of Harold Nevins and Mildred (Thurber) Nevins.  She spent her childhood in River Edge and Oradell, NJ.  She graduated from Hackensack High School and the University of Rhode Island (majoring in Home Economics).  She met her husband, Paul, after her 1st flight as an airline stewardess with United Airlines.  Both she and Paul worked at the World’s Fair in NYC in 1964-65.  They lived 40 years in Glen Rock, NJ where they raised their family.  Lynn was active in many church, school and community activities.  Having a great eye for color and style, she had her own interior decorating business.  In 2007, they retired to Essex, CT where Lynn continued to participate in church and community activities.  Lynn was a warm and outgoing person who loved and valued raising her children more than anything else.  She was a strong believer of roots and wings. Lynn was always an avid reader belonging to numerous book groups over the years. Lynn leaves behind her husband Paul of 56 years, her daughter Stacy Thornwall - Rogers and husband Curt of Lancaster, PA, her daughter Stephanie Thornwall Catalini and husband Tom of Melrose, MA and her daughter Kara Thornwall Stansel and husband Tim of Glen Rock, NJ and 8 grandchildren Patrick, Alexander, Kaitlin, Alec, Carter, Mia, Annalise and Griffin.  The family would like to say special thanks to the Essex Meadows Health Center staff for their compassionate care.  Her memorial service will be on Saturday, December 28 at 11:00AM at The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, corner of Lyme Street and Ferry Road.  A second memorial service will be on Saturday, January 4 at 1:00 at Community Church of Glen Rock, 354 Rock Road, Glen Rock, NJ.  Burial will be private at River View Cemetery in Essex.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Essex Library, 33 West Ave., Essex, CT 06426 or Glen Rock Public Library, 315 Rock Road, Glen Rock, NJ 07452.
