Obituary of Gretta F. Wright

Gretta (Farrelly) Wright, 86, formally of Old Saybrook, died peacefully, Tuesday, January 14th, at Water’s Edge Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home in Middletown. She was born on January 17, 1933 in Clonmellon County, Westmeath, Ireland, to the late Joseph and Frances (McCardle) Farrelly. Gretta was predeceased by her husband George Wright, and her brothers; Tom and Joseph Farrelly. She is survived by her Daughter; Carol Sweeney of Old Saybrook, her sons; Brian Wright of Overland Park, KS, Thomas Wright of Louisville, KY; and her Grandchildren; Fiona Sweeney of Los Angeles, CA, Emily Wright of Omaha, NB, and Colleen Wright of Warrensburg, MO. She is also survived by two of her sisters; Maureen King of Dublin, Ireland, and Frances Duffy of Tralee, Ireland. Gretta worked most of her life as a hairdresser and eventually owned and operated her own salon. She enjoyed traveling, pottery, and of course time with her family. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Her family wishes to extend a special thanks to The Village at South Farms in Middletown, and to Water’s Edge Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Middletown, for their excellent care and dedication. A visitation is scheduled for Friday January 17, from 9AM until 11AM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, Centerbrook, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12PM at Saint John Church, 161 Main Street, in Old Saybrook. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Gretta’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
