Obituary of Audrey Katheryn Parizo

Surrounded by her loving family, Audrey Parizo, known by family and friends as “Dee”, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2020 at Gladeview Health Care and Rehabilitation. She was the beloved wife of 63 years to Richard (Dick) E. Parizo. Born September 30, 1934, Dee was the daughter of the late Harold H. and Katheryn (DuBois) Holmes of Meriden, CT. Audrey derived much joy in being a mother and homemaker. After raising their family in Plantsville, Dee and Dick retired to Old Saybrook, to fulfill their dream of living near the ocean. It was there that Dee embraced her passions of reading, gardening, biking, and hiking. With a childlike wonder, Dee relished life’s simple pleasures of taking strolls on the beach at dawn and dusk with Dick, collecting sea treasures along the way, and crabbing along the marshes in their canoe. Dee thoroughly enjoyed following the UCONN Huskies basketball teams, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. As a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Audrey leaves her husband, children, and grandchildren with many wonderful memories to cherish. In addition to her husband, Dee is survived by her loving daughters, Karen Loiselle Goodwin and her husband Rob, of Columbia, CT and Detta Porat and her husband Tom, of Greenland, NH. Dee leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Kristin Loiselle Rich, husband Devon, and great granddaughter, Sloane, and Matthew and Sarah Porat. She also leaves behind a sister, Patricia Shoneck-Lachmund of Plantsville and is predeceased by her brother, Harold Burville Holmes of Wallingford. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Rose Holmes. It is with heartfelt gratitude that the family wishes to thank the staff of Companions and Homemakers, Gladeview Health and Rehabilitation, and the Middlesex Hospital’s Hospice and Palliative Care team for their devoted care, support, and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Middlesex Hospice Program, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457 (middlesexhealth.org/donate) or The CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111(cthumane.org). A private family memorial service to celebrate Audrey’s life will held in the spring.
