Obituary of James Edward Horan
With his loving family at his side, James Edward Horan (“Jim”) passed peacefully at the age of 87 into eternal rest on February 12, 2020. Born in New Haven on June 11, 1932 to the late John J. and Ethel Mary Horan, brother to deceased siblings Helen, Jack, Marge, William, and George. Married for 59 years to beloved wife Patricia Ann (Neuberger), Father to Edward (Pam), Catherine, and Michael (Jen). Mentor and coach to beloved grandchildren Nathaniel, Connor, and Joshua Horan, Madison and Ryan Poulin and Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jim’s early career started in the United States Navy, where he was stationed on various aircraft carriers including the U.S.S Intrepid. His LOVE of NAVY lasted his lifetime. On his 80th birthday his family took him back to his beloved Intrepid, for a surprise visit. What an awesome memory for all! With a love for learning, Jim achieved a B.S. in secondary education from The New Haven State Teachers College (S.C.S.U.) and other advanced degrees at Fairfield University. As a veteran, he was the founding member of the Southern Connecticut Veterans Association. He dedicated himself to education. His love and skill of math led him to his first teaching position, as a math teacher at Bailey Jr. High in West Haven. Kelly Jr. High School in Norwich, CT was Jim’s last assignment as the Administrative Principal. Jim enjoyed spending time with family, camping, eating pizza, and travelling to the national parks. A devout catholic, Jim was a parishioner of St. Lawrence Church in Killingworth, CT. The family wishes to publicly thank the staff members at the Artis House of Branford and The Guilford House for their outstanding care and kindness.
