As a morning dog walker, I had the pleasure of chatting with Jack and Martha everyday for many years. They were delightful and lovely. While their dog Daisy bravely protected them from my springer spaniel, Jack would share a good story then ask about my family. I loved his sarcasm and Martha's sense of humor. After Martha and Daisy returned home, I would expect to see Jack ride by on his bicycle, into town for the newspaper. In recent years he would stop his bike to say hello and proudly remind me of his age and good health. But then he would scoot away because he had a paddle tennis date! I remember another fun day with Jack and Martha after a big blizzard. I was out in snowshoes marveling at the accumulation when I saw Jack on his roof trying to shovel off 20" of snow. I returned with my 10 year old son and we helped him finish the job. When we descended the stairs, Martha was in the foyer with a big silver serving tray with cups of hot cocoa and cookies. Jack was a wonderful, smart, witty man. I am grateful I knew him. Rest in peace Jack.
