Sally introduced my family to the wonderful world of Keeshonden! She graciously invited us to visit her at her lovely Westbrook home so that we could meet and be greeted by the breed. As we sat on the sofa with our 8 year old son between us she said.."are you ready?" When the door opened (approximately) 8 Kees came bounding straight for the kid! It was the start of a love affair that continues to this day. Our family has never been without a Keeshond since we acquired a puppy 18 years ago. Many have been rescues, all have been sweet and silly and stubborn. Thank you Sally for your generous spirit, I hope you are surrounded by dozens of grateful Keesie who knew your loving touch, and you are all, at peace.

I met Sally at Havenwood in Concord when I brought my dog Dash to visit my mother-in-law. . On the second visit Dash jumped on her bed, created a little nest, and laid his head on her lap. After that experience, we stopped in Sally's room whenever Dash and I visited. Sally light up every time she saw Dash and Dash always treated her better than me! It was clear the special bond Sally had with dogs.
Although we only knew her for a short time, she made a great impression on my family. Please accept my condolences for your loss.

Dear Rich, Sue, Jon, Sara, Andy, Naomi and Families,
We were so saddened to learn the heartbreaking news of Sally’s passing. She was one in a million….her heart and soul were rescuers to many, including me and my family. Sally came into my life when my terminally ill mom Marie’s love, pride, and joy, an almost twelve year old Keeshond, needed a foster or forever home.
At a loss, we were introduced to Maryellen Grace, who worked with Sally in fostering and placing this special breed in their forever homes. Jasper was beautiful, but was high spirited shall we say, with his own agenda that my mom catered to. Sally accepted Jasper as a foster at first when my sister and I brought him to her beautiful Westbrook home. When she saw the love we had for him, and how grateful we were that she even considered taking him, she made her beautiful home(s) Jasper’s forever home(s). I say homes since Jasper became a part of Sally’s homes in both in Connecticut and in Florida. Sally even brought Jasper up on his birthday to see my mom at my sister’s home in Newington, for what would be the last time. Meeting Sally, seeing the amazing woman who had it all…intellect, wit, charm, beauty, but most of all, it was the love in her heart that soothed my mom like nothing could. She hung onto Jasper like a life preserver, but seeing he was blessed with a wonderful new home with someone who would love him like she did, (and curse him at the same time I am guessing), gave her permission to let go, and she did. She passed away eighteen days later.
One would think this was the end of the chapter, but it was not…it opened up a friendship that would last for twenty five years. My husband Scott and I were fortunate enough to be invited to their famous Mardi Gras Party in Westbrook, one of the highlights that we really looked forward each February. Rich, you and Sally and others made it look so effortless, but the hard work in planning, cooking, decorating and executing this annual event was amazing, and so appreciated by all.
Sally, and all of you, will always remain a part of our lives for all you have done for us, and all the laughter and joy you brought into our lives. Sally…you were unforgettable, and will live in our hearts forever.

Dear Richard, Thank-you for your lovely note telling me of your moms passing. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I purchased one of your mothers rescue dogs after my Keeshond had passed away some years ago. We sent Christmas cards every year and caught up about our dogs. She was a charming lady and am saddened by her passing. So enjoyed reading about her interesting life. With deepest sympathy, Cindi Young, Middleboro, Ma.
