Obituary of Ruth K. Schweitzer

Ruth K. Schweitzer, 89, of Winthrop, CT, followed the light home on January 29th 2015 after a short illness. Ruth was born in Waterbury, CT on May 19th, 1925 to Adam and Mary (Makeika) Kuraitis. After graduating from Naugatuck High School she worked for the Uniroyal Rubber Co. She married the love of her life, Edward G. Schweitzer, in September of 1946, and moved to Deep River, CT where she worked at the Uarco Co. She later took a job at Fortune Plastics in Old Saybrook where she worked for 33 years before retiring in 1990. She was predeceased by her husband Edward and her sisters Dorothy Hessinger and Irene Kuraitis. She is survived by her son, Donald Schweitzer of Deep River, her three grandchildren, SFC Ethan Schweitzer and his fiancé Jaimie of Newton, NH, Kate Bailey and her husband Peter of Derby, VT, and Sarah Schweitzer of Deep River. She also leaves behind her two beloved great grandchildren Ethan Edward Schweitzer Jr. and Paisley Ruth Bailey. She was a very independent woman who loved to spend her days at home working in her yard and watching the wildlife. She was very kind and gentle and always concerned about others. She will be especially missed by her grandchildren. Ruth enjoyed hearing stories about how her great grandchildren were growing and what they were learning. Her love of her grandchildren and great grandchildren was only surpassed by the love for her faith. Ruth was a dedicated churchgoer of the Lutheran Church of Madison, and always spoke highly of her pastors. Calling hours will not be held, but there is a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6th 2015 at the Lutheran Church of Madison, 9 Britton Lane, Madison, CT., 06443, with interment following at the Fountain Hill Cemetery in Deep River.
