Obituary of Ursula Carroll Birks
Ursula Birks passed away on December 31, 2020, at the age of 96. She was born in West Haven, CT, on April 18, 1924, to Lulu and John Carroll. Ursula met her husband, Raymond Birks, on a blind date in 1941 and enjoyed 71 years of marriage until his passing in 2014. They built the family home on Midwood Road in Milford, CT, as a young married couple and raised six children in the small house that was sometimes chaotic but always filled with love.
An avid sailor and skier, Ursula was hardworking, creative, intelligent, and a very special wife and mother. She was active in the community, especially at St. Mary's Church in Milford, and the Kennedy Center and its Nearly New Shop in Bridgeport.
She moved to The Saybrook at Haddam in 2017 where she enjoyed three years of pampering in her three-room apartment before moving to Gladeview Healthcare in Old Saybrook in July 2020.
She was predeceased by husband Raymond; son Raymond (whose wife, Sally, lives in Seattle, WA); daughter Mary; and siblings James, Joseph and Janet (Liston). She is survived by children Susan and husband Bob (Courtenay, British Columbia); John and wife Robin (Seattle, WA); Katy and husband Lance (Seaford, DE); and Shelly and husband Peter (Killingworth, CT); sister Anne (San Diego, CA); and nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Ursula's family and friends are comforted in knowing she will be reunited with her loved ones in heaven.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Kennedy Center in Ursula’s memory at www.thekennedycenterinc.org. If you would like to share a memory of Ursula or condolences, please visit rwwfh.com.
