Obituary of Charles Robert Farrell
Mr. Charles Robert “Bob” Farrell of Essex, CT peacefully passed away on his 91st birthday, January 26, 2021, in the Essex Meadows Health Center with the comfort of his immediate family. Bob was pre-deceased by Gillian “Jill” Ryland Farrell, his beloved wife of 55 years. Due to COVID-19, a “Celebration of Life” service may be held later this year.
Bob was born in the Bronx, NY, attended Fordham Prep and graduated from Fordham University with a business degree. He was a die-hard New York sports fan, avid golfer and skilled photographer. A life-long music lover, Bob grew up singing and playing trumpet in a small band which performed in the New York area. In his later years, he occasionally sang with his Catholic Church choir and was especially fond of “Ave Maria” and the music from Les Miserables.
Bob and Jill met while working in New York City, married and raised their children in Wilton, CT before living in Southbury and Woodbury, CT and eventually Essex Meadows, Essex, CT. Throughout his career Bob worked in industrial relations and personnel and retired as VP, Human Resources, Stanley Black & Decker. In addition, he served as chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals in Wilton for several years.
Bob, Jill and their children enjoyed summer vacations in Ogunquit, ME, Watch Hill, RI and Cape Cod, MA. In addition, Bob always looked forward to a shrimp roll and vanilla shake at Lenny & Joe’s Fish Tale in Madison, CT.
Mr. Farrell is survived by a son, Peter Farrell of New York, NY, a daughter, Julie LeProhon, son-in-law, Scott and grandson, Billy, all of Marietta, GA.
Peter and Julie are extremely grateful for the tremendous care and support their mother and father received throughout their time at Essex Meadows.
