Obituary of Robert Guy Walters
Robert Guy Walters Sr., 88, born in Chicago, IL, raised Lincoln, NE passed peacefully on February 4, 2015 in Essex, CT after living a life blessed with family and friends. Bob was the only son of Guy Aldridge and Irene Knoell Walters and loving husband of 60 years to Charlotte Hayes Walters. Bob was born on January 20, 1927. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1945, Bob enlisted in the US Army and served in World War II as a Military Policeman on the boat patrol of Lake Wannsee in Berlin, Germany. After returning from service in 1947 he attended the University of Nebraska and worked for an automobile repair shop, and due to his vast knowledge of cars he was then hired by Union Insurance Company in 1949 to be a Claims Adjuster, launching his lifelong career in the Insurance industry. He quickly rose up the ranks and was promoted and relocated to Denver, Colorado. It was there he met his wife of sixty years, Charlotte Hayes, a school teacher formerly of Hartford, CT and married a year later in 1954. In 1962 Bob was promoted again and relocated his family back to Lincoln Nebraska. In 1975 he was made President of Union Insurance Company. In 1984 Bob and Charlotte were transferred to Connecticut where he served as Senior Vice President for the W. R. Berkley Corporation in Greenwich, CT until his retirement in 1989. In 1991 he and Charlotte moved to the beautiful community of Essex, CT where they spent time enjoying boating again. Bob always had a passion to be on or near the water, and spent many summers with his five children in tow navigating any lake, river or channel that would find him. Bob is survived by his wife Charlotte Hayes Walters; children Robert Walters Jr. (Patricia) Sunrise, FL; Ann Scott ( Pat) Clarendon Hills, IL; Virginia Way (Radd) Overland Park, KS; John Walters (Laura) Foster City, CA; Julia Walters Curanaj (Peter) Monroe, CT., and eleven grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Tuesday, February 10, 2014 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 10:30AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 14 Prospect Street in Essex. Burial with the Rendering of Full Military Honors will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, North Main Street in Essex. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Bob's name may be made to the Veterans Honor Guard, C/O Commander Joseph Barry, 111 S. Edgewood Road, Niantic, CT 06357.
