I send my deepest sympathy to each of you! I was the aide at Deep River Elementary when Alicia was in our Special Ed class and I remember your lovely Mom’s dedication to Alicia and on occasion we would see your Dad. I know how Alicia adored her Dad and I only hope she is doing well without him.
I am so very sorry for your loss

Dave had an office across the hall from me in the late 70's early 80's at St. Bernards. Dave was always such a gentleman, a dedicated teacher and a football coach who taught his players much more than just football. He gave so much to St. Bernards. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

I remember Dave and Grace fondly from the ‘80s when I first got Dave involved with the CT High School Coaches Association running clinics for the state games of Special Olympics Connecticut. When they were blessed with their daughter, they redoubled their efforts working within Special Olympics and its wide circle of supportive and educational organizations. Dave… always a smile and positive word. Condolences to the whole family. God bless. RIP.

Coach, I first met you in November 1986, in your admissions office after my parents called you directly to see if you would meet with me and consider acceptance into Saint Bernard High School. Let’s just say things were not going well in the public school sector for me and on that November day, you not only excepted me into Saint Bernard‘s, you instructed me to show for football practice that following Monday! I am convinced your decision changed my life course. You went on to be my football coach, my math teacher, and the guy who required me to have weekly reports filled out by all my teachers to make sure I was staying on track! For that I am forever indebted to you! Your passion in the classroom and your tears during halftime showed us you cared and made us care! May you Rest In Peace! “Diamond-Dave” Vanasse Jr

To show his passion for football and his players, I had the privilege to play for him at SB from 1987 and 88 until he was no longer a coach. We played ND or West Haven, then ranked 4th in the state. We lost on a final fluke play that was a gut wrencher for all SB people at the game. Huddled around him with our hands brought in he raises his head with years in his eyes and says, I love all of you...go shake their hands....never forgot that.. Pete "Bobo" Ballaro
