Obituary of Virginia L. Marshall

Virginia L. Marshall, 81, of Haddam, Connecticut passed away on June 14, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born on March 26, 1940 in Stamford, Connecticut to Walter and Elizabeth (Simons) Lucie. Her childhood was spent moving to wherever her father’s job took the family. This included Old Greenwich, Connecticut, Edgewater Park, New Jersey, and Manhasset, Long Island. One place that never changed was their summer home along the Connecticut River in Chester, Connecticut. The family eventually moved to Chester full time in 1949. Ginny was a graduate of Valley Regional High School Class of 1957. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University and a Master’s Degree from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Ginny took great pride in being an alumni of all three schools. After teaching college for a number of years at Iowa State, she embarked upon a career at various medical laboratories with the State of Connecticut. If there was one thing that Ginny loved above all others, it was her little farm in Haddam. No matter the time of year, anyone who drove by would find her tending to her animals, working in the gardens, cutting wood, or clearing the fence line. She very much enjoyed being outdoors with the animals and often remarked that her beloved dogs Mandy and Peanut were two of her best friends. There was no one she wasn’t willing to help and her generosity was limitless. Ginny was predeceased by her parents but leaves behind her sister, Bettie Perreault of Chester. She also leaves behind her daughter, Mary-Beth Marshall of Enfield, North Carolina, two grandsons, Erik Huffstetler (Devon) of Trinity, North Carolina, and Dillon Marshall (Kathleen) of Middle Haddam, Connecticut and two great-grandsons, Dexter Huffstetler and Sean Marshall. In addition, she leaves behind her nephew, Duane Perreault, niece Martha Bannister, and her nephew, Donald Perreault, with whom she was very close. Services will be privately held.
