Obituary of Walter R. Hansen

Walter R. Hansen, 89, of Old Saybrook, formerly of North Branford, beloved husband for 57 years to the late Lillian (Auclair) Hansen died peacefully at home on February 7, 2015, with family by his side. Walter was born in New Haven, son of the late Harry & Thera (Westerholm) Hansen. He served his country in WWII in the U.S. Army, a former P.O.W; he was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a lifetime member of the Elks, served as a Past Exalted Ruler in Branford and was a member of the VFW. Walter retired from John Hancock Ins. Co. in 1988. He loved boating, the casinos and most of all life. He survived by his sons; Harry Hansen, Joel Hansen, Russell Thomas , Wayne Thomas, daughter-in-law Donna Lott, 16 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, in addition to his wife he was predeceased by his sons Peter Hansen, Walter Hansen and Robert Thomas. Visiting hours will be held at Robinson Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. Centerbrook on Thursday from 5-7pm.
