Obituary of Carol M. Phillips

Carol M. Phillips, of Ivoryton, passed away August 24, 2021. Carol celebrated her 85th birthday on July 10th. She was a city girl, born in Manhattan, New York, where she met her soon to be husband, Edward M. Phillips. Together they came to Ivoryton in 1963, raising their 5 children. Carol was happy and content with the house she lived in for 58 years. She attended all her sons’ football, basketball, baseball and soccer games and could be found on the hill knitting a poncho, sweater or hat. Carol worked at Chesebrough Ponds in Clinton for 35 years. She started working on the lines and worked her way up by going back to school to become a Micro Lab Technician. She enjoyed her 20 years of retirement. Carol took many trips and cruises through the Caribbean, loved to shop for clothing and jewelry and to attend local estate sales searching to complete a Depression glass collection that she loved to collect. She kept active at the Westbrook YMCA where she attended water aerobic classes and swam. When you would call Carols house you would either hear the woman’s Husky’s or Giants game on or her pet birds chirping in the background. Carol adored to watch the birds in the bird houses that she could see from her kitchen window and to spoil her cat Onyx. She appreciated the help from people around her, from her mail man who brought her mail to her neighbor Mrs. Perkins who helped so much. She especially appreciated her son Stephen’s help, who lived close to the family residence. Her other children and grandchildren helped when they could. She is predeceased by her parents, Wilhelmina and Ludwig Brauneis and her husband Edward M. Phillips. She leaves behind her children Edward, his wife Linda, Stephen, Alan, Cathy, Henry, and his wife Maggie. And her grandchildren, Aaron, Caitlin, Jeremy and Madison. The family will follow Carol’s wishes and there will be no viewing hours and a private funeral service.
