Obituary of Donald P. Wilcox

Donald P. Wilcox, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 4, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Maureen Wilcox for 61 years. Don was born on January 16, 1936 in Middletown, CT, the son of the late Louise G. Wilcox and Henry A. Wilcox. Raised in Westbrook, CT, Don and his brother Dick owned and operated Wilcox Fuel Company for over 30 years. Don was very active in the community of Westbrook as a longtime local business owner and a member of Westbrook Congregational Church, Westbrook Volunteer Fire Department, Westbrook Library Building Committee, and the Elks Club. He also served in the National Guard Reserves. Don's favorite times were those spent on, in or near Long Island Sound with family and friends. Over the years he could often be found in the captain's seat of the "Lucky Me" crossing the sound or simply enjoying the magnificent and familiar shoreline views from his favorite chair. Goose and duck hunting were other activities he enjoyed both locally and in Delaware. Don leaves his two loving daughters, Deborah Horvatinovic (Matthew Horvatinovic) of York, PA, and Laureen Wilcox (Richard Winslow II) of Chester. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Alex Horvatinovic (Erika Kydd), Natalie Santiago (Mario Santiago), and Jennifer Horvatinovic. He also leaves behind his great granddaughter, Elena Page Santiago. His family and friends will always remember Don's unassuming demeanor and countless acts of kindness and generosity that touched so many throughout his life.
