Obituary of Jean B. Spencer

Jean B. Spencer, age 85 of Ivoryton passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. She was the beloved wife of Alfred J. Spencer. Jean was born in Old Saybrook the daughter of Thomas Irwin and Leah Adeline (Doane) Buckridge. She was raised in Centerbrook and has been a resident of Ivoryton since 1950. Jean and Alfred were married in Centerbrook on December 6, 1950. Jean was a member of the Ivoryton Congregational Church for many years and she also taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Essex Fire Engine Co. #1 Ladies Auxiliary. As a young women Jean enjoyed modeling and throughout her life loved lighthouses and as a teen spent the summer months at Montauk Light. She was an avid gardener who loved butterflies and hummingbirds, an avid reader of mysteries novels, and loved camping and Model A's. Besides her husband she leaves her children, Laura Lewis and her Husband Ken of Ivoryton, Thomas J. Spencer and his wife Susie of Orem, Utah, her sister, Elaine Leclercq of Texas, her brother, William Buckridge of Essex, and her beloved grandchildren, Clinton J. Spencer and his wife Jessica, Chad M. and Shawn T. Spencer, James A. Lewis and his fiancée Aja DePizzol, Alex Lewis and Jeanette P. Buck. Jean was predeceased by her infant daughter, Gloria Ann Spencer. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 5:00PM to 6:30 PM. Jean's funeral service will be conducted at 6:30PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Jean's name may be made to the Essex Fire Engine Company #1, P.O. Box 786, Essex, CT 06426.
