Obituary of Donald G. Picard

Donald George Picard, of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, died Saturday morning in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family, a day shy of turning 84. Donald was born to the late Paul and Colombe (LaMothe) Picard. He leaves his cherished bride of 62 years, Margaret “Dolly” (Morra) Picard. Donald was the devoted father to daughters, Julie Carroza (Mark) of Essex, Connecticut, and Renee Picard Walsh (Michael Walsh) of Boston, Massachusetts, and beloved Pepere to his three grandchildren Michael & Julia Carroza and Michael Hutchison Walsh. Donald is survived by brother Richard Picard of Sarasota, Florida, sisters-in-law Lois Picard of Hope Valley, Rhode Island, and Edith Picard of Westbrook, Connecticut, and his treasured nephew, Michael Picard of Old Saybrook, as well as many beloved Picard and Morra nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Paul Picard, Roger Picard and Philip Picard and sister Louise DiIorio. Donald was a member of the National Guard. He lived and worked in Rhode Island until moving his family to Connecticut when he was transferred by Sherwin Williams Corporate in 1977. He left Sherwin Williams after many years of commitment as the District Manager for New York and New Jersey. An entrepreneur at heart, Donald owned and operated United Paint in North Haven before starting Diversified Floors, Inc., a commercial floor covering company in East Hartford. An enthusiastic business person, he went on to own United Carpentry, Inc. and New England Panelization. Donald also served as a trustee for both Atlas Companies of Branford and Vernon Bank. Donald had a passion for life, a strong Christian faith, a generous soul who quietly supported many causes in particular those to benefit children and his local community.
