When we moved to Dirigo Street in Portland, ME, I knew we arrived at the right spot almost right away. It was early spring and I had a three-year-old and a baby and was trying to maneuver my way around a new neighborhood in one of those umbrella strollers while trying to keep my older daughter from running into the busy street. Margaret came out of her house and introduced herself to me saying she'd stay by the baby so I could run ahead to catch my older daughter. Margaret and Kent were a force for good in our neighborhood--always looking out for the kids and providing me with an understanding ear. I am grateful that over the years I got to know not just Greg, but all of the rest of the White family and loved being invited to picnics in their backyard--especially the one where Cathy explained how capitalism worked to my daughter.
Always, always there was Margaret's ever-present British wit and charm. If she was arriving at the polling place as I was leaving, she would smile and remind me she would be canceling out my vote with hers. At the annual Christmas fair, she would delight at seeing my kids playing in the kids' room and spending money to earn silly prizes. And during our progressive dinners, it was Margaret who led the conga line as we went from one house to the next. Hers is a spirit that cannot be replaced. My deepest condolences to all of you.

Dear Mike, Cathy, Mr White and ALL the Wonderful White Family,
How SOOO VERY SAD and SORRY my family and I are to hear of the loss of your Brave and Beautiful Mother!!!
She always had a way of making anyone who walked into the room feel like the most SPECIAL person in the whole wide world with that glint in her eye and that delightful British accent! How LOVED she was by ALL of us who were LUCKY enough to have crossed her GOOD and GRACEFUL path. Her legacy, clearly, is her family who shares her Goodness, Grace, Compassion and Faith. My family and I are sending you ALL a BIGGGG WARM HUG from Portland, Maine and lots of prayers as you walk through these difficult days ahead. We are WITH YOU and MISS YOU! Margaret was one of my favorite people. She was such a bright light - a wonderful, warm, caring, giving, funny person who will be missed by so many people. My family lived next door to Marg and Kent for many years. She was like a surrogate grandmother to my children (and to others in our neighborhood) and they loved her, as did my entire family. We're all sending our warmest thoughts and love to the entire White family.

As a former neighbor of Margaret and Kent’s, it is so sad to hear of her passing. We were an exceptionally close neighborhood, and feel that we have lost OUR Queen!
We have been sharing so many wonderful memories of The White’s these past few days, and they all have been happy and funny.
On behalf of Jim, Justin, and myself, I want to extend our deepest sympathies to Kent, and the entire family. We will forever remember Margaret and her infectious smile.

It was my pleasure to know Margaret White, she was such a sweet person. I used to enjoy looking at magazines about England and the royal family etc. I never saw such a couple in love. It brings sadness to my heart that she left us but I will never forget her.
