To John's Family, We wanted you to know what a wonderful person John was. We first met him years ago at Colvin Yachts in Westbrook where he gave us many sailing lessons during summers and early Fall. We met frequently for lunch along with Dorothy, and would stop by their house to visit and see progress on John's latest engineering project. When we bought our first large boat, we played on his ''Final Folly' and named our boat 'Fancy Free'. Picnic lunches on the boat were such happy times and we traded stories of travel and family, and it was obvious just how dear his family was to him. We also admired John and Dorothy's devotion to each other. We particularly loved John's delightful sense of humor and his positive outlook on life, despite some big bumps along the way. Our last fond memories of John were at South Farms where we would be greeted at the front door upon our arrival, and of him with his cronies , totally ensconced in a card game! We are so sorry not to be able to attend his memorial on April 11 as we will be in Chicago with our first grandchild. Know that we will be thinking of you all -- and we mourn his loss. hi folks, I was hoping to bump into you at Dad's apt, but write now to tell you how much john was loved at vsf. "Santa" probably had a good sense of that, hopefully you all did!. It was my good fortune, when I moved my folks in (charles & cathy #109)2 yrs ago, to have john meet them immediately. He was gracious and kind, smart, and funny! Life isnt easy at that stage, but your Dad was such positive energy and so generous spreading i around. I was there often eough that I came to adore and appreciate John as much as the residents. I wish I'd known about his fiddle=playing and would carving-my interests, as well; but I give thanks for having known him, and having my own parents have "Good neighbor, John"so near. I'm thinking of you all, sending warm thouhts and prayers. Not an easy time in our own lives to become "orphans", yes?! be well, know that dad is safe and free from any pain, and had many, many friends in his last 2 years alone, without dear Dorothy. best regards, sally
