Obituary of Janet L. Thomas

Janet L. Thomas, 76, of Ivoryton, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2022. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, Janet was the beloved daughter of the late Adelard and Aldea (Brodeur) Canuel. After moving to Connecticut, she made her home in Westbrook and most recently served as bookkeeper for Moeller Instruments in Ivoryton for nearly 30 years. She was the quintessential mother and grandmother—always showing the utmost care and unconditional love to her entire family. She found great peace spending time at the beach and loved to be near the water. Janet enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley, having Twizzlers and Jujubes for a sweet treat, and caring for all types of animals. At her side for many years was the love of her life—Arthur “Artie” Moran—who shared countless memories of dinners and dances filled with laughter and love. Janet’s joyous spirit and kindhearted soul will always be remembered and cherished by those who had the privilege of being in her life. She will be greatly loved and missed forever. Janet is survived by her three adored children, Lisa Westerman, Frank Thomas (Ashley), and Jason Thomas (Jessica); her sisters, Lorraine Banville and Pauline Baraby (William “Bill” Baraby); her precious grandchildren, Timothy Westerman (Willow), Andrew Westerman, Arin Wheeler (Brian), Harleigh Thomas (Derek), Dylan Thomas, Nathan Thomas, and Zoe Thomas; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Richie and Timothy. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Denise Canuel, her brother, Robert Canuel, and her son-in-law, Rick Westerman. Janet’s family will receive friends from 2-4 PM on Friday, June 17, 2022, at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook, CT 06409. A prayer service will be held at 3:45 PM. A reception celebrating Janet’s life will follow at Clark Memorial Field (“Fireman’s Field), 210 Elm St., Old Saybrook.
