Obituary of Livingston S. Jennings

Livingston Stark Jennings, Jr., 79, of Deep River, CT fought bravely through a lengthy, undiagnosed illness, and passed peacefully at Middlesex Hospital on Friday, June 24th, 2022. He was born in Bronx, New York to Helen M. Ashman and Livingston Stark Jennings, Sr. on November 27th, 1942 and grew up in West Islip, Long Island. He loved his childhood home and spoke of it fondly throughout his life. After living for several years in Long Island, Livingston moved to Connecticut and began his business, Jennings Excavating, in 1969. He was well-respected in his field and he continued to consult on various excavating jobs throughout his later years. Liv had a sharp mind for mechanics and knew how to fix just about anything. He also was a talented carpenter and his handiwork is on display throughout his home, with custom-built cabinets, furniture, sheds and decks. He always seemed to be at work on some sort of project, and even a devastating injury to his hand several years ago didn’t slow him down much. He was passionate about antique cars and Mack trucks, and he was a devoted fan of both Mets baseball and NY Giants football. Liv made many friendships through his work over the years, and he could often be found tinkering with one of his machines or helping a friend with a project. He enjoyed meeting up with some of his “associates” for “coffee breaks” around the tri-town area and he was known by all to be a loyal, humble, and dependable friend. Livingston leaves behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Charlene Jennings, and their children Nelle Andrews (Todd) and Philip Jennings (Linda), and their grandchildren, Molly, Spencer & Morgan Andrews and Nolan, Landon, & Aubrey Jennings. He is also survived by his son Michael Jennings (Stephanie) and his two children and his daughter Christin Jennings and her two children; step-children, Todd Vose, Hilary Bernetich (Jeff), and Jason Vose, and several step-grandchildren. Livingston and Charlene attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church as well as Latin masses at St. Stanislaus Church in New Haven for many years. Together they shared a very close faith and spirit in Christ which supported them through Liv’s illness. The family is very grateful for the many generous acts of kindness and prayers they have received over the past several months. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM on Friday, July 8, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Church, St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 48 Middlesex Ave., Chester, CT. Guests are kindly asked to go directly to the church in the morning. Private burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Westbrook will follow. The Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home of Centerbrook is caring for the arrangements.
