I loved working with Augusta Benjamin in the Friends Historical Collection (now the Quaker Collection) in Greensboro. She was the consummate volunteer but we all thought of her as another staff member because she was with us quite a number of hours during the week. She was involved in all of our social activities. I remember at Christmas when she would make a candy wreath for the door and a pair of children’s scissors were attached and during the season you snipped off a piece of wrapped candy. I remember also her sharing of recipes and I know I have some in her distinctive printing in my recipe box. I remember one particularly for stained glass cookies. We were all sad when she and Kenneth left their beautiful home on Friendly Avenue (where we all were invited numerous times) to return North. I am sorry to say that I didn’t kept up with her beyond a few years. But I will always remember her cheerful disposition and her lovely ways forever.
