Obituary of Robert Whalen
Robert D. "Bob" Whalen, age 83, of Killingworth passed away at his residence on Sunday, March 15, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Helen (Goss) Whalen. They were married in Springfield, MA on December 15, 1953. Bob was born in Springfield on September 16, 1931 the son of John and Mary (Curtis) Whalen. Bob had been a resident of Killingworth for the past 20 years. Bob and Helen owned and operated Whalen Cleaning Service for 35 years. He then worked as a custodian at I.P.C. Technologies in Westbrook for 18 years before retiring in1997. Bob was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1949-1952. He proudly served aboard the USS Macon. He was a devoted New York Giants fan for many years, and was a member of The Good News Clowns and known as "Mr. Buttons". He was also an Honorary Girl Scout. Bob will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, and family man. Besides his wife he leaves his daughters, Donna M. Whalen of Clinton, Wendy A. Adamowicz and her husband Paul of Cromwell, and Linda S. Timmerman and her husband David of Clinton. He also leaves his 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Bob was predeceased by his daughter Mary L. Campbell. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. His funeral service will be conducted at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 109 Main Street in Centerbrook on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00AM. Interment will be privately held by his family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 112, Centerbrook, CT 06409.
